Do you have problems with your bite? With the way your smile looks? Or is your smile deteriorating over time? These problems may be resolved with Orthodontic treatment.

Orthodontics is a specialist field of dentistry focused on the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of problems related to the alignment of teeth and jaws. It is beneficial to both adults and children alike.

An Orthodontic problem is called a malocclusion, meaning "bad bite".  Some of the causes of Malocclusion are crowded teeth, extra teeth, missing teeth or jaws that are out of alignment. Most malocclusions are inherited, although some can be acquired.  Acquired malocclusions can be caused by accidents, early or late loss of baby teeth, or sucking of the thumb or fingers for a prolonged period of time.

Treatment to resolve these conditions can take between 6 to 18 months depending upon the age of the patient and the severity of the problem. Treating Orthodontic problems early may be less costly than the restorative dental care required to treat more serious problems that can develop in later years. You may also be surprised to learn that straight teeth are less prone to decay, gum disease and injury.

Orthodontic treatment can alter jaw growth, correct a bad bite and straighten your teeth to give you a beautiful, healthy smile. Teeth will last a lifetime if they are properly aligned and cared for.

Overcrowding
The main cause of over-crowding is a discrepancy between the size of your jaw and the size of your teeth. Crowding is the most common Orthodontic problem amongst our patients. As well as being less attractive, Crowding can cause teeth to function incorrectly. Crowded teeth are also harder to keep clean, causing an increased risk of decay and periodontal disease. Braces are the most common treatment used for treating Crowding. This is the most effective and accurate way to realign crowded teeth.  Wherever possible, teeth are not extracted and the overall balance and aesthetics of the face are the primary consideration.
